Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO) in partnership with International Alert conducted two research findings validation workshop at Adama. The researches focus on the assessment of business and human rights in Ethiopia. One of the research assessed the challenges and opportunities of business and human rights in MIDROC Lega Dembi Gold Mines, while the other research analyzed the human rights elements of Omo Kuraz Development Projects.
The fact that the workshop provided a platform for presenting key research findings and collecting feedback and inputs from diverse stakeholders such as representatives from Ministries, civil society organizations, private sectors, media and academician is commendable.
Genuine multi-stakeholder discussion was also held to initiate multi-stakeholder coalition on business and human rights formation. Two experts from Uganda joined the conversation to share the Uganda’s experience of adopting National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights and the role of CSOs in the process.
The workshops play a vital role in bridging gaps between various stakeholders, nurturing dialogue, and creating a more informed and participatory discussion. Moving forward, participants suggested for a continuous discussion forum that would help to enhance responsible business operation in Ethiopia.
